Celebrating success: On Site Bristol apprentices and employers recognised in awards ceremony
In June 2025, On Site Bristol hosted an exciting evening of celebration and awards for their apprentices and employers.
The event, which was held at Gloucestershire Cricket Club, was open to nominated employers, apprentices and their families. All nominees were given special certificates and winners took home glass trophies.
Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Andrew Varney was in attendance and presented all award winners with their prizes. Head of Bristol City Council’s Employment, Skills and Lifelong Learning service, Jane Taylor, also gave a speech stressing the importance of diverse recruitment and thanking employers and apprentices’ families for their support.
On the night, there were many award categories for apprentices including Technical, Electrical Installation, Gas Engineering, Plumbing, Craft, Plastering, Bricklaying, Site Carpentry, Bench Joinery, Construction Support and Painting and Decorating. There was special recognition for 30 employers too.
Several nominated and winning apprentices were asked to share their On Site apprenticeships journeys.
Tin, 2025 Electrical Installation Apprentice of the Year, had this to say when asked if his apprenticeship had been what he expected:
“My apprenticeship has been nothing like what I was expecting. I thought I would get my qualification and pursue a career in Thai Boxing. However, the time I spent with the people around me has completely changed my thought process. Electrics are really rewarding, providing people with a service which improves quality of life is something I really like. I couldn’t have asked for a better apprenticeship.”
Molly, nominated for 2025 Bricklaying Apprentice of the Year, shared her thoughts on being a woman in the construction industry:
“I was surprised how accepted I was and the praise I got for achieving things. I was also surprised how much strength I have built up as when I started, I struggled lifting the everyday things bricklayers need which I worried about but with patience and practice I can now do it without thinking. Everyone at work and college, as well as family and friends, have made me feel supported and compliment my work.”
Ben, 2025 Site Carpentry Apprentice of the Year, explained what he enjoys the most about his apprenticeship:
“The projects I work on have been excellent and it’s really rewarding to see the final product. It’s been really interesting seeing a house built from start to finish and how it all comes together. I have learnt so many new skills. I came into my apprenticeship knowing almost nothing and I have massively developed my skills and knowledge beyond my expectations.”
Oliver, 2025 1st Year Craft Apprentice of the Year, gave this advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship with On Site Bristol:
“An apprenticeship is in my opinion the best way forward. Not only will you learn skills you can use for the rest of your life, but you will always have a career.”
