Shine – Employability Training Course
Shine uses creative activity, group learning and practical employability support to help young people build confidence, develop transferable skills and take their next steps into work, training and paid placements.
The course is designed for young people who may face multiple barriers to employment, and no previous experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to take part.
Who it’s for:
- Aged 18–21
- Currently NEET (or recently NEET) – Not in Education, Employment or Training
- Based in the West of England
- Priority groups:
- Disabled and neurodivergent young people
- Care-experienced young people and young carers
- Young people under-represented in the creative industries
What participants can expect:
- A welcoming, supportive 2 week course
- Creative workshops that build confidence, teamwork and communication
- Practical support with CVs, applications and interviews
- Time to explore interests, strengths and next steps
- Guest speakers and peer mentors with lived experience
- Paid placement opportunities following the course
Proposed course structure:
- Dates: Mon 9th March – Thu 19th Mar 2026
- Schedule: Tuesday–Friday, 10am–3pm
- Locations: Bristol Beacon (City Centre) and a South Bristol venue
- Cohort size: Small groups (12–13 participants)
Access & support:
We aim to remove barriers to participation. Support includes:
- Free travel (Youth Guarantee bus pass and session travel costs)
- Access support (e.g. BSL, support workers)
- Childcare funding (where needed)
- Hot lunch and refreshments each day
- Embedded peer support from previous programme participants
Referrals & applications
Young people can apply directly via a short, friendly form — no CV or prior experience required. We’re also happy to support referrals from partner organisations and talk through suitability on a case-by-case basis.
