A Week in The Life: Work Experience with Bristol Post 16 Team
Hello, my name is Victor and this was my week at Bristol Post 16.
Day 1
The first thing I did at City Hall was a induction to Bristol City Council. In this induction I was shown about how diverse Bristol is. After, the induction I was sent to go shadow one of the Career Coaches for the day. They gave me a workbook to work through for the week with some tasks involving me asking questions to other members of the team.
Day 2
My second day at Post 16 was very entertaining since I was invited to help with jobs fair in Cabot Circus, I was shadowing the team. During the Jobs Fair, I was tasked with asking multiple stands questions. Some of these stands gave me ideas on where I could go if I wanted to follow a specific career type.
Day 3
On Day 3, I was with one of the Coaches at Docklands. The Coaches helps kids get into jobs or help them join courses. During my stay at Docklands, I helped the Coach go to Aid Box Community a charity that’s not far. Once we got there, we gave some football shirts and the Coach helped a Irani woman who was seeking help for her son.
Day 4
I was in City Hall. I joined some other work experience students and listened into a film Hard Truths with the Youth Justice Team. I continued working on my presentation in the afternoon.
Day 5
In the morning I presented in the team meeting, I covered the information about the different jobs in aviation and pathways into it. The rest of the day, I shadowed the team in The Launchpad, holding appointments for young people and met and spoke with someone from the DWP and found out what their work looks like.
“My work experience at Bristol Post-16 was very, very interesting. I got to shadow the Career Coaches and see how they help teenagers around Bristol find courses, jobs and support. My favourite part was helping at the jobs fair and seeing how the team works with different young people and families. I learned more about networking, data protection and how everything is organised behind the scenes. I’d recommend this placement because you get to learn multiple skills and see how people help young people find their future options.”
