Knowle DGE opens its doors!
Yesterday, WORKS was part of an amazing Careers Event held in the brand-new Post 16 building at Knowle DGE Academy.
A whole host of post-16 providers alongside employers gathered to share information and guidance regarding apprenticeships and pathways to a selection of schools including Landsdown Park Academy Rush Hill, Notton House Academy, St Matthias Academy, Soundwell Academy and the Sky Academy.
The day began with stalls in the hall where parents and students could ask questions about what WORKS is and get some support about the options available to them when they finish school.
As we settled into the morning, interactive workshops then began for students to get stuck in and learn about some different career sectors.
Christopher Boddington from Knowle Edible Garden gave a great insight into the world of gardening and students planted beans, peas and garlic that they could take away with them to nurture. There was a lot of excitement around getting their hands dirty in the soil.
Across the hall Onsite had 3 practical jobs to complete! Students got stuck in with building a wooden door, building a wall from foam bricks and putting together some pipe work for a plumbing job. It was great to see so many students getting involved and especially how many were able to fix the wooden door puzzle!
Finally upstairs students had a go at redesigning the Bristol WORKS logo as they heard from Bristol based Artist Andy Burns Colwill!
It was an event that bustled with excitement from students who were accompanied by parents and teachers. The event saw students trying out experiences and collecting information. Alongside these workshops there was lots of other amazing activities and events going on to inspire and engage the students! What a fantastic way to open up the new building at Knowle!
