Behind the Scenes of The Bottle Yard Studios
This week, students from Ashton Park School and Oasis Academy John Williams had the opportunity to see behind the scenes of The Bottle Yard Studios.
The students started the day by going into to the offices and had an induction where they learnt more about the technical language used in the industry. They then watched a show reel of some of the shows that have been made at The Bottle Yard Studios such as: Tipping Point, The Outlaws, The Crystal Maze, Trollied, and so much more.
Afterwards, the students were taken on a tour, where they got to see the Studios’ massive Tank Houses, which are used as sets. They also visited Bristol Costume Services, one of the companies based at The Bottle Yard. Their costume stock has over 90,000 items! There were hundreds of rails of period and contemporary costumes and accessories which get hired out to the theatre, television and film industry. The students also entered multiple recording studios, with one including a painted back drop that was used for Poldark. On the tour the students got to use all the technical language they learned during the induction, with the most iconic being: ‘the honey wagon’ which is what the industry uses to refer to a toilet.
The students were then put to work, trying to name all the careers that are in the TV industry, and how all the roles are linked and they put them in order of seniority. They were then set a task to interview people on site, so they started brainstorming lots of ideas, such as: who to interview, what to ask, who was filming and who was talking. With the help of The Bottle Yard Studios staff, the students went off to interview, film, and put their plan to action!
It was a really exciting couple of days offered by the studio where the students got to see other career path opportunities for their future- having lots of fun along the way, so a huge thank you to The Bottle Yard Studios for offering this opportunity!
This good news story was written by Ashley – a student from Orchard School who is on work experience with the Bristol WORKS Team this week…
“Hello, I am Ashley, and I got the opportunity to go to the above as part of my work experience with Bristol Works, and it was the highlight of my week. As part of my work experience placement at Bristol WORKS, I have managed to grab an insight into the amazing work that they do, the effort they put in, and the dedication into making careers a more understandable and outgoing adventure. As part of my placement, I have attended The Bottle Yard Studios, worked at City Hall, and so much more. The working environment at Bristol WORKS is incredible, the communication is amazing, the connection is enlightening and again the dedication is inspiring!”
