From weddings to conferences; Students at Fosse Way design some amazing events for Centurion Hotel
Students from year 7-9 at Fosse Way, took part in a 2-part session delving into the world of hospitality. First, they visited the Centurion Hotel and were given a full tour by the Hotel manager, Mark. Students were introduced to staff from different departments from chefs to housekeepers to human resources. Students also got the opportunity to try their hand at a bit of napkin folding, making some elaborate stars. Students asked some excellent questions and discovered more about the teamwork required to run a successful hotel.
Back at school, students were joined by Mark once again, to plan an event for the event space they were shown at the Centurion Hotel. Students had a budget of £2,000 and a brief from a client. They could spend more if they could persuade an adult the extra money was necessary. Students then presented their events back to the class, justifying their use of the budget. The result was some amazing designs, including a wedding with a trampoline for the kids, a birthday party with a live band and a conference with a full stage and lectern. Students at Fosse Way really demonstrated that they have the skills to be fantastic event planners, and a career in hospitality could definitely be in their futures. A big thank you to Mark and Centurion Hotels for their support in making these sessions so successful.
