Bring Careers to Life In Your Curriculum

Bristol WORKS connects secondary schools with employers across the city to deliver meaningful experiences of work for students aged 11–16.

Through employer encounters, workplace visits, and work experience opportunities, Bristol WORKS helps schools enrich careers education, raise aspirations, and support students in understanding the world of work.

Our team works closely with schools to coordinate employer engagement that supports careers education and aligns with national careers frameworks such as the Gatsby Benchmarks and Equalex Framework.

Partnership Overview

Bristol WORKS works in partnership with secondary schools across Bristol to deliver high-quality employer engagement activities that help students explore future careers and pathways.

Through our network of employers, we connect schools with organisations willing to share their expertise, offer real-world insight into industries, and provide meaningful opportunities for students to experience the workplace.

Our programme supports schools by coordinating employer activities, reducing the administrative burden on teaching staff, and ensuring activities are well organised, excellent quality and impactful for students.

How It Works

Partnering with Bristol WORKS is designed to be simple and flexible for schools.

1. Identify & Request

Bristol City Council WORKS identifies schools with a higher proportion of students at risk of becoming NEET. At the end of each academic year, we meet with these schools to plan employer‑led encounters for the year ahead, ensuring activities enrich and complement the careers curriculum. We continue to support you throughout the year with any additional engagement you wish to organise

2. Match

Once activities are agreed and scheduled, WORKS reaches out to employers in our network and coordinates the delivery of each session.

3. Deliver

Activities take place either in school or at an employer’s workplace, with Bristol WORKS staff on hand to support and ensure students have a positive and meaningful experience.

4. Evaluate

We gather feedback and student evaluations to share with schools, highlighting what worked well and what students found most valuable. This insight helps shape and improve future sessions as well as ensuring the sessions remain meaningful for the students.

Bristol WORKS is now welcoming new schools. If we haven’t worked with you before and you’d like for us to deliver in your school, please register your interest. You can express your interest in one‑off activities at any time during the year, or choose to commit to a full annual package.

Work Experience (WEX)

Sharing Opportunities

Our dedicated Work Experience team gathers placement opportunities from employers that align with your WEX weeks and shares them with schools. This list is live and updated throughout the year as new employers join the Bristol WORKS.

Match with Employers

Students can apply for placements using an application form and parental/school consent form. We coordinate arrangements directly with employers.

Ensuring Quality

We work closely with employers to ensure they are fully prepared to host students and provide high‑quality work experience placements.

What We Provide Schools

Bristol WORKS offers a range of activities and resources designed to support careers education and enrich learning for students.

Careers Events Support

Bristol WORKS helps schools organise and deliver events where students can meet a range of employers in one day including career carousels, ‘guess my job sessions’, assemblies and In-House Work Experience days. We coordinate employer participation and help ensure students have meaningful opportunities to explore different sectors.

Employer-Led Sessions

Employers can deliver workshops, talks, and interactive sessions within schools. These activities help students understand career pathways, develop employability skills, and learn about real roles within different industries.

Parent Engagement Events

We support schools in engaging with parents and carers through parents evenings that help families better understand the opportunities available to young people and the activities that their child is taking part in.

What Our Schools Say

Safeguarding Expectations

Bristol WORKS is committed to ensuring that all employer engagement activities are safe, appropriate, and well supported.

All activities are delivered in partnership with schools and follow appropriate safeguarding procedures. Bristol WORKS staff work closely with schools and employers to ensure expectations are clear and that activities are suitable for students.

School staff remain responsible for safeguarding during school-based activities, while Bristol WORKS supports employers in understanding expectations and preparing appropriately for student engagement.

This collaborative approach ensures students have positive, safe experiences when interacting with employers.
