Supporting Young People with Education, Training and Employment Opportunities
David Harrigan, Post 16 Manager is extremely proud of every member of the Post 16 Team for stepping up to support young people since GCSE results day: “they have been working tirelessly with young people and their parents to ensure that they have a smooth transition from school into further education, training or employment”.
The team have based themselves in a range of community locations including the ESL Launchpad in the Galleries, the Greenway Centre in Southmead, and The Park and HWV in South Bristol. These sessions allowed for parents and young people to book appointments or drop in to discuss their next steps. The team have escorted young people to different providers and advocated for them to ensure a positive outcome.
Below are some of the kind words the team have received from parents:
Mark Newman – Career Coach
“He lifted our hopes massively from where they were. It was very clear just how dedicated and passionate he was for helping youngsters in their next steps. He took personal responsibility for trying to resolve the situation our daughter was in, going as far as to say he was going to try to visit the provider on our behalf, either with us or on his own….In taking the time to support our daughter, Mark has not only perhaps elevated her future career prospects, he has also gone a long way in hopefully keeping her mental health on an upward trajectory. It’s not an inflated claim to say that he has single handedly had a massive effect on her future life.”
Debs Sharp – Career Coach
“I just wanted to take the time to let you know how helpful and brilliant Debs has been in helping us over the last two weeks and wanted to give the credit where it is due, without her help I’m not sure my son would have made it in to electrical as the college kept telling him it was already at capacity, I firmly believe the help and support that Debs has given him has made all the difference and given him the opportunity to progress in his chosen field.”
The Post 16 team have also been busy hosting the annual “Meet the Provider” event at City Hall bringing diverse Post 16 providers education face to face with a wide range of practitioners.
