Apprenticeships and Community Learning Teams rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted
In May ESL were visited by a team from Ofsted for an inspection of our Apprenticeships and Community Learning provision. Any Ofsted visit is always a fairly intense experience, but teams felt well prepared and welcomed the opportunity to showcase the achievements of learners and staff with inspectors.
The full report has now been published and we are absolutely delighted to report that the Ofsted inspectors found the service to be ‘Good’ overall with’ Outstanding’ learner behaviours and attitudes.
We are particularly pleased that the inspectors recognised the work we had done to encourage and support learners in their attitude to learning as we believe learners confidence, ambition and pride in their learning are key to their successes and to them achieving their goals.
Ofsted said:
‘Apprentices’ and adult learners’ behaviours and attitudes to learning are outstanding. They are punctual and have high rates of attendance. They enjoy the calm learning environments, value their learning and have developed the confidence to contribute and ask questions. They are proud of the good progress they are making in their learning. Learners feel safe, respected, and well supported by staff.’
They also recognised the hard work staff teams put in to support learners and give them the best possible opportunities and environments to succeed.
‘Teaching and training staff work very closely with and know their learners well, accommodating thoughtfully any additional learning need. Apprentices’ training staff set high expectations for professional behaviours during training sessions.’
Inspectors were able to see the work done to structure our curriculum to meet the needs of communities and the successful relationships we have with partners and employers. They felt we worked effectively to remove barriers for learners. They also recognised the work we do to make sure learners are supported in their next steps and able to move forward with training or careers.
‘Tutors, development workers and training officers ensure learners and apprentices receive effective and impartial careers information, advice, and guidance. As a result, they know what their course or apprenticeship is equipping them for and have a good understanding of future training, education, or work options.’
Of course there will always be areas we want to develop, explore, and improve but the Apprenticeship and Community Learning teams were reassured and delighted that Ofsted inspectors were able to see and evidence the hard work of staff across the teams creating the best possible experience for apprentices and learners.
