If you do choose the work/voluntary work route, this will involve you working towards a nationally recognised qualification as well as being employed, self-employed or volunteering for 20 hours or more a week

Until you are 18 you need to stay in some form of education, however you have a wide range of options such as full-time education or apprenticeships. Part-time education or training if you are employed or self-employed for 20 hours or more a week. Part-time education or training plus volunteering for 20 hours or more a week.

Volunteering is unpaid activity that you choose to do to support the community, an individual or the environment.

You can also gain a lot of benefits for yourselves too such as developing your skills and experiences, try an industry of work that you may be interested in.

How to Make the Right Choices?

If you feel that this is the best option for you then you may wish to discuss this option with your teachers, tutors, careers advisers, parents / carers to ensure this will:

  • meet your needs, both now and in the future.
  • give you opportunities for future employment.
