Oasis Brightstowe Young News Team

As part of Bristol WORKS activity at Oasis Academy Brightstowe, boomsatsuma is supporting a team of budding young reporters and designers to take ownership of their school newsletter.

The team of Year 8s have been meeting weekly with boomsatsuma students to plan, design and create their termly school newsletter, with an emphasis on creating a student identity. With support from a member of staff and the the post-16 Media Production students from boom, the Year 8s are using photoshop to build a publication that highlights the good news in the school and alerts students, parents, carers, and the local community, to upcoming events.

The students will work in this team across the year, building a newsletter at Christmas, Easter and at the end of the Summer term. Embedded into the activity is a visit from a volunteer professional who will feedback to students on their design, offering advice and guidance whilst discussing their role and how they got there.

With the first letter due to go to print in two weeks, it’s an exciting time for the team!
