A Busy Week for Bristol WORKS
Bristol WORKS has been knee-deep in action for the last week with the WORKS team supporting new and former WORKS schools across Bristol.
Both Bristol Met and Orchard School Bristol saw members of the WORKS team attend careers fairs alongside our WORKS employers. Both events were bustling with students ready to engage organisations and education providers with questions about their futures. The events also saw students take part in activities and workshops to offer useful advice and guidance whilst inspiring them to make some decisions about Post 16 pathways. Both events were open to students in Year 9 to 11 and their parents.
There was more advice and guidance on Monday with students from Kingsweston and Knowle DGE visiting Engine Shed and boomsatsuma to learn about SETsquared and roles within the creative, digital and tech industries. Guided by Engine Shed Partnerships Manager, Lorraine Fairbanks, the group learnt about the history of building, the role Engine Shed plays in supporting fledgling organisations and the variety of opportunities available in the city. Dropping in on One Big Circle, they even got to learn about ‘intelligent video’ and how the organisation builds software and hardware to suit any number of exciting projects for clients.
After their tour, the group visited the boomsatsuma classroom to learn about creative and digital progression pathways. With a particular interest in Games, the group received a presentation by two second year Games, VR and VFX students who talked them through their experiences and showcased some of their games art and 3D modelling.
The action didn’t stop there. WORKS also attended the careers fair at Bridge Learning Campus this week. Working alongside a whole host of employers and education providers, the WORKS team met with students in Year 8 right through to Year 11. All year groups were also able to take part in a carousel of activities to help them make decisions about the future.
A huge thank you to all employers who volunteered to be part of Bristol WORKS activities this week. Watch this space for more to come.
