Exploring film making with Offspring Films
To kick off November we delivered an exciting workshop where a team of professionals from Offspring Films visited St Bernadette’s Catholic Secondary school, showcasing roles and careers within TV production for students! Offspring films specialises in factual and natural history programming, so it was a great creative and educational session for all involved.
The team spent the morning with 23 students from Year 9 going through a variety of careers within TV production and filmmaking, whilst also introducing their personal roles within the company. The Offspring team delivered a presentation on each of the positions from starting off as a Runner or Production Assistant editor and all the way through to a Producer/ Director or Production Manager. The team shared what it is like to film wildlife and all the challenges that come alongside it; this was a chance for the students to ask questions and explore everything that’s involved within a career in this industry! Offspring Films were kind enough to bring in lots of equipment for the young people to see, and to get a feel of what they might be using if they were within this career. Some students tried on camouflage clothing to see what filming in the wild without disturbing the wildlife may look like, some others got to handle professional cameras with huge lenses that the team use in their filmmaking to get their close-up shots. The students also got to look at some drones that are used to get high up shots of landscapes and wildlife that may be hard to reach!
Overall, this session was a great success and the students had great engagement throughout, how could you not! Ralph from Offspring films summed up his experience by saying “It was a real pleasure”. We would like to say a big thank you to Offspring films for taking their time to deliver such an amazing session!
