Voyage students ‘put through their paces’ at Trident Fitness
Students from Voyage Learning Campus visited a local gym, Trident Fitness, for an experience of the workplace visit to find out more about careers in fitness and wellbeing.
Upon arrival the students met James, the Gym Manager, who gave them a tour of the facilities at the gym including all the fitness equipment – as well as the sauna, steam room and freezing plunge pools! Here students learnt the importance of these for supporting with good mental health as well as recovery after a workout. James also discussed the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle including eating a balanced diet and exercising – and the importance of eating breakfast!
The students were then put through their paces as they did exercises and used the equipment that personal trainers use with their clients. James discussed with the students that putting together a fitness plan including these elements is part of his role as a personal trainer. Some of the students are keen to become personal trainers so it’s useful for them to learn from James about what this looks like in practice.
The visit finished up with the students choosing a protein shake whilst they learnt about different ways of becoming a personal trainer as James shared his pathway in the sector. The school commented that ‘James was inspirational to the students, explaining his background and showing the students all equipment throughout our time’.
It’s brilliant to be able to show students local career options available to them, as Trident Fitness is just down the road, hopefully some of them will be inspired to return. A huge thank you to Trident Fitness for being so accommodating and to the students at Voyage for being so engaged with this visit.
