Students go ‘beyond the art’ at Wake The Tiger
Students from St Matthias Academy in Bristol experienced what it’s like to work at the immersive art experience, Wake The Tiger.
The students first explored the experience in a self-guided tour where they came across each of the different interactive environments in the dystopian parallel world. Whilst exploring they were tasked with being Content Creators and were asked to take photos for use on social media, the students enjoyed this and got creative with this task throughout the experience.
On their second visit, the students learnt more about the teams behind the experience and heard about the variety of different roles within Wake The Tiger. They had a Q&A with team members in the Marketing, Production and Operations teams where students found out more about their teams, roles and career pathways into the sector. The students found it useful to learn about entry level roles in the Operations Team that could provide a stepping stone into more creative roles. The teacher on the visit mentioned one of the most useful parts of the visit was ‘hearing about different jobs and routes into them’.
The students were then set a creative challenge to design a new room in Wake The Tiger using a variety of different materials – and their imaginations! The production team use this collaging technique to start generating ideas for new spaces so this was a realistic work challenge for the students. A member of the Wake The Tiger commented that the most successful aspect of the visit was the ‘young people being creative and learning new information’.
Thank you to the team at Wake The Tiger for putting together these visits for the students, also thank you to the students and teachers at St Matthias Academy for engaging and supporting this visit.
