Students engage with real life experiences
Bristol Works engage young people who feel left out of the traditional school model.
One particular student was put forward by the school to take part in a series of Works activity sessions. They did not have positive relationship with their school and were often skipping lessons, and showing challenging behaviour leading to exclusions.
Each session enabled them to engage in a challenge or responsibility. The student developed project management, team work and communication skills on a newspaper project.
They said they liked being treated like an adult and felt respected.
Bristol Works helped the student secure a successful work placement at an estate agent for which they received really positive feedback.
Since then, they have re-engaged with school in a positive way and hope to find a job that involves meeting new people and having responsibility.
