Sixth Form Results Day – Thursday 17 August – Year 13
A level, BTEC, T-Level and other technical qualification results will be available from 17 August. Students can collect their results in person from school or college. If they are unable to collect their results in person, speak to the school/college about alternative arrangements.
The advantage of collecting results from school is that they’ll have teachers on hand to discuss next steps if they don’t get the results they’d hoped to achieve. Possible options might be retaking the examinations, retaking the year or changing their next year plans.
For details on the options for those applying to start university in September, there’s more in our article The Parents’ Guide to sixth form results day and university applications 2023, and there’s also our specialist book: The Parents’ Guide to Results Day 2023.
If they get the results they wanted – congratulations, it’s time to celebrate!

Thinking about a gap year?
If your teen is uncertain about their next steps or didn’t quite reach the grades for their top university choices, a gap year might be a good option. Taking a gap year lets you learn new things and have experiences, while also giving you time to think about and concentrate on your future plans.
A gap year opens the door to various possibilities, such as volunteering, traveling, paid employment, enrolling in courses (either part-time or full-time), or even combining a mix of these experiences. Many companies provide meaningful opportunities that not only offer valuable experiences but also cultivate essential transferable skills. These can give your teen an advantage over those who opt not to take a gap year.
