A visit to The Bristol Hotel
On Tuesday Morning students from New Fosseway got to visit The Bristol Hotel to learn about the different roles, have a tour and take part in some practical activities.
The group was split into 2 with one group completing a tour led by Ellinor, the Human Resources Officer. Students were shown around all the different areas of the hotel, seeing hotel staff in action and what they get up to in their day to day. When they got to the bar they even got to see how coffee was made by Panche, the bar manager, who let the students taste the coffee delight!
Meanwhile in the conference room students learnt the correct way to fold napkins and polish cutlery with Stylianos, the restaurant supervisor. Each student got stuck in and learnt the best way to hold the cutlery so that they didn’t get fingerprints on it after polishing. Students placed the polished cutlery in the correct bucket so that everything was organised ready for service before heading to the ballroom!
Once there Helena, the Meetings and Events Operations Manager, showed the students the steps to a successful table layout a task we learnt was usually performed by the waiting staff. We learnt many useful tips which included imagining the table is a clock face with napkins being placed at specific times to ensure they are equally spaced. Students took to the challenge and set up the table with huge success.
It was exciting to learn about the different events such as weddings and meetings that take place in the different sections of the ballroom.
The groups then swapped so everyone got a turn at both activities.
Following this we joined back together to hear more about the employees’ roles and the students were able to ask questions to the team. It was great to hear about all the progression routes and opportunities available at The Bristol Hotel and how the team’s favourite thing about their roles is interacting with lots of different people each day.
Students left positive and excited to use their new skills in the school café!
Thank you to Ellinor Shaw and her team at The Bristol Hotel for making the visit such a huge success.
