Lighting up Temple Meads with Enervo
Year 10 students from Oasis Brightstowe were lucky enough to visit Temple Meads to spend the morning learning about its huge regeneration project, run by Enerveo.
Students were fully kitted out, with high vis jackets, hard hats, gloves and safety glasses, before being taken on a tour of the Temple Meads station, including being privy to the spaces for its extension. Project staff from Enerveo and Bristol Temple Meads talked the students through the planned changes and improvements, and even gave them some history of the buildings. It was super interesting to discover that the royal family used to stay in the building on the right-hand side of the station, which was used as a hotel.
Next, Year 10 were challenged to bend some metal poles using specialist machinery and tools. This was a real test of strength, and everyone was so impressed with the participation of every single student, they even challenged their teacher to have a go! This task was a little insight into the more physical aspects of work at Enerveo, and it was very encouraging to hear many students excited for a career that requires these types of practical and hands on skills.
Throughout the morning, students from Brightstowe got to meet a whole range of colleagues from Enerveo and discovered that there are many different roles that suit different skillsets. For example, those with good artistic and drawing skills could find a job designing for Enerveo, whereas those with good leadership skills might be more suited to project management. Students also discovered that there are different pathways into the industry, from apprenticeships to university degrees.
A massive thank you to Enerveo for putting on such an engaging and informative morning of activities, really highlighting the impressive work you are doing to bring Temple Meads station into the 21st Century. Another big thank you to the Year 10 students from Oasis Brightstowe for being engaged and inquisitive and for throwing yourselves into the metal bar challenge. A fantastic morning was had by all.
