Sweet Treats and Samosas with North Star 240*!
Last week students from North Star 240° had an afternoon of catering with two face to face taster sessions taking them on a journey from sweet to savoury! As part of the sessions students were able to meet both a post 16 provider in catering and an employer to gain different insights of where catering can lead after school life.
First up was City of Bristol College where staff and students from the catering course were on hand to guide students through making some lemon drizzle cakes! They started with a health and safety brief before getting stuck in measuring, mixing and baking the ingredients. Everyone took on different roles and used teamwork to create a successful end product!
Whilst the cakes were busy rising in the oven, we began the next session with Pardeep who is a fantastic chef within The Army and has even been on master chef and has her own cook book. Pardeep gave a taster session on how to make samosas from scratch! Students got stuck in with chopping and cooking the vegetables followed by filling the pastry with the delicious filling.
What an honour to also have the Major Christopher in attendance, seeing him in full uniform sparked up discussion about different careers in the army.
After we had finished in the kitchen WORKS stayed to attend North Star 240°’s Parents Event where we were able to give support and guidance to the students about their post 16 options. The cakes and samosas were set out at the event and judging by the empty plates the students cooking was a huge success!

A massive thank you to both City of Bristol College and The Army for supporting us at this event, it was amazing to see the students engaging in the kitchen!
