Students Share about Careers Fair!
This weeks’ good news story is a little different… it is brought to us from students from Orchard School Bristol. We hope you agree, they have done a great job of summarising the school event during National Careers Week!
“During national careers week, Orchard School Bristol hosted a careers fair for all their year groups which had many employers and post 16 providers in attendance to support the students with potential options after school (we were there too!). Within this, Bristol WORKS collaborated with a group of year 9 students prior and during the event to create this good news story to cover the event. The students took pictures and wrote their own segments which is the basis of this news story today.
At the Orchard school careers fair, my personal favourite stall was the Bristol Rovers FC one because the guy at the stall was really informative and I found out that someone from Orchard school joined the team and is now a great player in the team. He also invited us to some games we could participate in. We also spoke to Boomsatsuma who said that they enjoyed being able to encourage young people to go into the creative industry and that it is something very close to their heart.
We interviewed students and teachers during the event. Olivia from year 9 said how she was very interested in the Army because it caught her eye, and it was something she was interested to work in. Another person was Miss Burrell, who said she was a teacher of martial arts before she tried normal teaching and realised, she loved it!
Towards the end of the event, we spoke to On site Bristol and asked them some questions. First one being “how do your apprenticeships benefit people?” in which they responded, “some people are better at learning outside the classroom environment and in our apprenticeships, you get paid as well as learn skills”. As well as this we spoke to the company Bray and Slaughter and asked them how their jobs affected young people and they replied “Our job is to promote our business on social media, so people will see that and be inspired” which was great to hear.
Overall, I think that a careers fair was a really interesting way to find out about where we can go after school and how many options we have. I definitely would like to attend one again!”
