Celebrating our Partnership with the Fantastic, Award-Winning FD Works!
A huge congratulations from Bristol WORKS to one of our amazing partners, Accountancy firm FD Works – whose great efforts were recognised by, winning Xero’s 2023 Community Impact Award! Going up against global companies, FD Works successfully challenges the stereotypes of the financial services world, working to make finance accessible and fun. They also won the 2022 Accounting Excellence AccountingWEB Pride Award – go FD Works! The fabulous Kim told us that “partnering with Bristol WORKS has helped us win these awards!” – how brilliant to hear!
FD Works continually go above and beyond to give back to the community and Bristol’s young people. “We wouldn’t be able to reach these young people without our partnership with Bristol WORKS”, the fabulous Kim from FD Works told us. It’s an honour to work with such an amazing, impactful company. FD Works has opened the eyes of young people in Bristol (and beyond!) to financial careers or apprenticeships, showing that these options are available to them.
Wanting to reach and inform young people, FD Works originally tried to reach out to schools directly – but found that forming a partnership with Bristol WORKS meant this was a much easier process! The impact of our partnership has been immense – here is just a snapshot of the shared activities we have been delivering for Bristol’s young people!
Most recently, Bristol WORKS and FD Works supported students across the Learn@ Multi Academy Trust in a careers carousel, Getting Hands-On with Bristol Businesses at Knowle DGE, with FD Works helping students work out budgeting basics – showing that “accounting isn’t just doing Maths in a basement!”.
In a series of group mentoring sessions Exploring Pathways for Bristol’s Young Women, FD Works introduced the finance industry (including marketing) and the variety of roles available in the field. This helped to inform young females about future pathways and opportunities that they may not have even considered before, leaving them with a sense of confidence and direction about their future.
During a Finance-focussed week, Kim, Liz and Amelia at FD Works focused on challenging the stereotypes of working within the sector for Blaise High School. Students heard about the day in the life of their apprentice at FD Works – endorsing apprenticeships as a great option for many after they leave school, which they are!
For St Bernadette’s Careers Week, the amazing FD Works team provided workshops giving an insight into finance – it turns out that you don’t have to be a maths whizz (but having a keen eye for detail and organisation skills helps)! The learners were encouraged by their ability to complete a bookkeeping task, which made them realise that they are more than capable of working in this exciting industry.
It’s clear that FD Works is passionate about helping young people into careers that they love, and showing people that finance can be fun and exciting, and their awards are very well-deserved!
Thank you FD Works – alongside Bristol WORKS, we are reaching and informing more and more young people about future career possibilities. Here’s to continuing our successful partnership – FD Works, you are fantastic!
