Behind the scenes at Novotel!
Last week students from North star 240 participated in an exciting bespoke tour of Novotel hotel in the heart of Bristol city centre. The session was created to enable students to explore the variety of roles available in hospitality.
Students met the manager and learnt all about his exciting role running two hotels. They embarked on a tour of the hotel and were able to ask questions throughout. They visited the restaurant and bar area and then into the kitchen to learn about the role of a chef. They learnt how a kitchen can be very busy and how they would need to listen to instructions and speak clearly. They enjoyed testing out the walk-in freezer, which was a whooping -19 degrees – chilly!
They were also able to explore different rooms available and understand more of what the role of housekeeping entails. The little extras given to the people staying at the hotel were given the thumbs up from students. Next, they were shown the staff room and the manager’s office- of course the office chair was tested and given 10/10 for comfort!
The students were intrigued to see the repairs room filled to the brim with all types of tools. They were able to learn about skills they would need for a maintenance role in a hotel. The tour finished in the roof top garden. It was very interesting to hear how the hotel is growing food to use in their restaurant.
If all of that was not enough, then all students were able to take on the role of a chef to decorate their own doughnuts with an array of fruits and sweet sauces. To wash it all down they made super fruit smoothies. The visit came to an end with Novotel presenting each student and staff member with a goodie bag! It is safe to say all students had a fantastic time with one student already trying to arrange his future interview with the manager before he left!
We would like to thank Novotel for providing such a wonderful event. Also, a huge well done to students who made their school proud with exemplary behaviour and excellent questions.
