Getting zen with Athlete Industry
This term, Kingsweston students were visited by Matt from Athlete Industry to learn about career pathways in sport and fitness.
First students explored the different roles in a leisure centre, using pictures to work out what roles are available. They were then encouraged to think about which personal skills might match to those different roles.
Students were then asked to identify different pieces of fitness equipment, such as rollers and resistance bands. Students had the opportunity to use this equipment, under the careful supervision of Matt. The resistance bands were such a success, Kingsweston are now looking to get some in for students to use daily.
Next, Matt led the room in a Chinese yoga session, forming different animals and learning the correct way to stretch and breathe. This left us all feeling very relaxed and calm for the afternoon.
Finally, Matt talked us through a typical day in a life of a personal trainer. All the students had been prepped with some fantastic questions to ask Matt about his career and interests. It was wonderful to hear that one of the boys in the group is looking to be a personal trainer, and he impressed us all with his flawless press ups.
A huge thank you to Matt from Athlete Industry and all the students who took part and made the session such a success. I think we all left feeling refreshed and revitalised for the day ahead!
