City Academy Careers Day
In December 2024 we had a fantastic day at City Academy with all their Year 9 students who were exploring a range of interactive careers workshops to help them develop their skills and discover new careers. With GCSE option choices on the horizon for these Year 9 students, the day also allowed the students to explore how the subjects they study in school link to the world of work and supported them in making their GCSE choices.
Across the morning Year 9 were challenged to design creative and innovative structures with Galliford Try and to get imaginative designing biscuits in a hands-on hospitality insight with Clayton Hotels. Across the corridor other students were taking part in an exciting session with Scrapstore who helped them to discover the range of environments and pathways linked to being a play worker. The day also saw students become engineers as they built an aircraft wing with Airbus, explore the world of advertising with Clear Channel designing some incredibly persuasive posters, and be sustainability consultants advising a local business on how to meet the sustainable development goals in a Catalyse Change Masterclass. Wilmott Dixon helped students design a sustainable school whilst Vistry group tapped into the students’ communication skills as they negotiated with each other in the role as construction project manager.
Overall, the day was a fantastic showcase of the variety of roles in the working world and the exciting opportunities open to these students in the future.
We want to extend a massive thank you to City Academy for having us in and especially to all the Year 9 students who engaged with the day so well and asked some fantastic questions to the employers. Of course, we also send a big thank you to all of the employers who joined us on the day and who volunteered their time to inspire and engage the next generation of play workers, construction managers, advertising executives and more!
