Charlie’s dream career lies in the construction industry

Charlie had applied for a Beauty course but after a talk from On Site Bristol she discovered how young women can take up careers in the construction industry and what they were doing.

Inspired she sent across her application that evening.

After passing initial assessments, Charlie needed an employer and  secured a position with the Responsive Repairs team at Bristol City Council. Charlie’s Training Officer supported her by visiting every 8 weeks and talking on the phone in between.

At first she found it hard to adapt to working life, straight after school, managing work, college and her role as a carer for her dad.

“After qualifying, I got a permanent role with the Repairs team,. I’m currently working on Laundry’s, which is great and very busy.

I’m grateful that I have the qualification and experience I do, which means I have a variety of choices.”

Charlie aspires to obtain further qualifications in the industry.
