Bristol WORKS hosts Coding Masterclass and Careers Talk
Last week, Bristol WORKS played host to an exciting and innovative coding masterclass and careers session to inspire and challenge Bristol’s future coders.
The coding session, run by PA Consulting as part of their Raspberry Pi Competition, was an exciting opportunity for Bristol students to learn more about the practical world of coding and find out more about how to enter the competition itself.
In addition to the coding masterclass, OVO Energy ran a session specifically looking at the type of careers open to people with an interest in coding. Dave Gatehouse (Agile Coach) and Roger Holmes (Head of Engineering) talked to students, enthusing them with information and guidance on the range of careers available to them. This was anything from programme testing, app design, web design, or even a career as an ethical hacker.
With 24 students ranging from age 12 – 14, from Henbury School, Ashton Park School and Bristol Brunel Academy, the session offered them a unique insight into the world of coding and where it might lead.
With one student saying “It encouraged me to do something with computing in the future to help people” and another saying “It showed me the potential of future opportunities” it was clear the session was a success.
