Bristol Digital Inclusion Project
Bristol WORKS are delighted to be supporting the Bristol Digital Inclusion Project in allocating PCs to WORKS schools. The NHS have donated around 200 desktops that are able to be allocated out to schools across the city. This also includes monitors, keyboards, and mice depending on availability. Bristol Waste have been helping to collect the PCs, wipe all previous data and then deliver these to the school. This week has seen 50 PCs delivered to Blaise High School and 10 delivered to Orchard School Bristol. Blaise School were pleasantly surprised to find out that they were able to be allocated 50 PCs when they had originally only asked for 10 and we know this has a huge impact in ensuring young people have the digital equipment to support their learning in school.
Ms Thorne from Orchard School Bristol has said:
“The desktops have been put in our Year 11 block in the self -study area. They will replace the existing desktops which are now obsolete and enable students to complete coursework, post 16 applications and assessments. Many of our students do not have access to computers at home or have a quiet place to study, so the desktops will be a valuable resource to help them with working towards their GCSEs and preparing them for post 16 life.”
Bristol Waste are also offering work experience for any schools taking up the PCs where the young people will be able to gain valuable skills to help prepare the PCs. This includes: Using tools to install hardware, testing / troubleshooting, software installation, cleaning, admin/Paperwork, and learning about internal workings of a PC.
There are still PCs available for further information or to make a request for your school please email Kate at digital.inclusion@bristol.gov.uk or WORKS@bristol.gov.uk
