Back with a bang at Bristol WORKS!
It is the first week back after the Easter holidays and we have had a super busy week across the team – have a read about the exciting workshops we have delivered this week!
On Monday and Friday we had two workshops at The Hive at Broadlands Academy for students doing preparation for their open event next week! Both sessions were really successful and students used their new knowledge to create some advertisement to send out to families and friends!
Later in the week Bristol WORKS witnessed Year 10 students at Oasis Academy John Williams undergo a mock interview session. The activity was planned to make the students future ready ahead of their Work Experience week this summer. More than 30 employers volunteered in the event and it was great to see enthusiastic students arriving with their CVs in hand. Despite some nerves students took to the challenge and successfully answered questions with the volunteers! Employers fed back that students had great answers to the questions and were able to give feedback to each student individually.
We rounded off the week in the centre of Bristol with New Fosseway students participated in a captivating theatre workshop at Bristol Old Vic. Harriet Wilson from the theatre led the session leading students through from the history of the theatre to future technology of AR. The students got to bow and take the centre stage as well as learn about the roles of light and sound designers and how important their role is in any theatre production. The students then got an exciting sensory experience exploring sounds and how they are created. The raindrops and the train track sounds particularly caught the curiosity of the students. Alongside this, students saw backstage rooms and learnt about the different roles as designers, finally rounding off with AR technology on iPads to design sets, props and SPX. The students were eager to share what roles they would like to take in the future.
It has been a fantastic week at Bristol WORKS, as always we would like to say a massive thank you for the ongoing support of all our employers who have been involved in sessions this week!
