Exciting Opportunity for Bristol Students to Participate in International Virtual Work Experience in Construction
Students from Bristol WORKS schools will soon have the opportunity to gain work experience through a unique and exciting virtual construction project in collaboration with international students from Kenya, Ghana and Zimbabwe.
WORKS are really excited to be collaborating with Bell Group UK and Black Professionals in Construction to deliver the ‘Global Youth Construct’ programme. This is a week-long interactive construction challenge running from the 8th-12th February 2021.
This is a brilliant opportunity for young people to gain valuable experiences of work, develop their skills and experience within construction – particularly at a time where traditional work placements are limited!
What will the project cover?
Students will have the opportunity to undertake a wide variety of tasks, from research and marketing to design and build. Through Q&A sessions, interviews and films, the project will also provide industry insight into construction-related careers from bricklaying and business development to community engagement and carpentry. Students will learn technical skills as well as vital transferable work skills such as team work, problem solving, decision making and resilience.
Who is it for?
This fantastic opportunity open to students in Years 9-11 who are able to commit to attending the full week virtually. WORKS are able to support with providing laptops and equipment to students who would otherwise not be able to participate so please get in touch if this is something you would like to discuss.
How do I find out more?
There will be a live Q&A session on Tuesday 19th January between 3.00 – 4.30pm for students, parents and teachers to find out more about the construction industry, meet the employers and ask any questions about the work experience week. If you would like to register for this, please email WORKS@bristol.gov.uk.
How do I apply?
Applications are now open! Teachers should register with Speakers for Schools here and then individual student applications can be submitted.
Attending the Q&A session is optional so students can apply now if interested. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 27th January.
We are really excited to be partnering and developing this opportunity for our young people across the city and would love to do all we can to inspire young people to take this up and engage with this opportunity. For any queries about applications or any other questions about virtual work experience, please contact WORKS@bristol.gov.uk.
We look forward to sharing further information with you!
