An Insight into Catering with Mark’s Kitchen
On Monday this week students from Knowle DGE school got an insight into the world of catering with the help of Mark from Mark’s Kitchen, a Bristol-based business.
The students began by watching a recorded video tour of the kitchen at Clifton Golf Club which showcased the type of equipment that is used within a commercial kitchen, the types of jobs available within the industry and the story of Mark’s career journey so far. We also got to see Mark make a delicious curry from scratch!
For the second part of the activity, the students were joined live in school by Mark himself who was able to answer the varied questions they had about working as a chef. We learnt that not only does Mark cook food for the Golf Club visitors, but he also makes restaurant quality ready meals to eat at home – no wonder he is working 7 days a week at the moment!
The group were interested to hear that you don’t necessarily have to have any specific qualifications to work in the industry as you can work your way up, but there are many catering-related college courses that can be studied if a student is interested in learning more.
