Supporting the Next Step for Year 11s with Transitions Week
WORKS are very excited to be partnering with the City of Bristol College on a Year 11 Transitions Week to help students with taking their next steps. This is running across the week commencing 28th June and is being hosted at South Bristol Skills Academy, Hengrove.
The half-day sessions held during the week will aim to give young people an insight into the types of courses available to them after school and a better idea of what it is like to be a student at college.
During the half a day, students will be able to access a tour, attend a taster workshop and have the opportunity to ask questions, meet key staff and be supported to apply if appropriate.
These face to face college tasters are aimed at supporting Level 1 learners currently in Year 11. This is particularly aimed at supporting students who:
-
Are unsure of their post 16 destination or next steps
-
Have not yet applied for a post 16 option
-
Are considering or planning to go to City of Bristol College but are nervous about this transition
The course subjects covered across the week include Animal Care, Motor Vehicle, Catering & Hospitality, Construction, Care and Health & Beauty. You can view the full timetable and details on the event poster here.
Year 11 students can go to South Bristol Skills Academy for half a day (morning or afternoon) either as a small group or individually with the support of WORKS and a school staff member who will be in attendance. Students only need to go to the morning or afternoon session but can attend multiple sessions across the week if beneficial for them. Across the week, there will also be the opportunity for students to attend a virtual session run by WORKS relating to travel planning for Post 16. This will be a 45-minute interactive session run at three different times across this week.
If you have any questions or would like to book a place for yourself (or for a young person if you are a parent, carer or teacher), please email WORKS@bristol.gov.uk.
When booking, please provide your name (name of student if booking on behalf of someone else), session(s) you would like to attend, contact details for a school staff member, and also any access or additional needs we may need to be aware of.
